Career Exploration Pathways: Design Your Own

What is Required?

Design Your Own Pathway (requires Academic Review Committee application  & approval )

At JSRHS, we celebrate all learners as unique individuals with distinct interests and needs.  Our Program is designed to meet the broadest spectrum of student needs possible, but we recognize that we have not mapped an Exploration Pathway for every interest area or future career path.  For those students who are interested in forging their own way, we offer the Design Your Own Pathway. Students selecting the Design Your Own Pathway will work with their School Counselor to research and propose a unique career exploration pathway.  The Design Your Own Pathway process requires documented research into the field of interest, and completion, submission, and approval of an application that includes a specific sequence of study, including related job-shadow/internship opportunities to the Academic Review Committee.

Required Design Your Own Pathway Elements:

  • JSRHS Course map: Specifically identify the classes that will make-up the sequence of study for the pathway.  This should follow the model of the other Pathways articulated in this section.
  • Job-shadow and/or internship: Identify possible sites, contacts, mentors
  • Identify possible extracurricular activities, conferences, etc. that support career path investigation

Additional Honor Cord/Recognition requirements:

  • Documented attendance at a minimum of ONE Pathway-related conference, seminar, or presentation AND a personal reflection on the experience
